Another Con Already?

It's been less than two months since Loncon3, and, far from being conned-out (even if I did take most of September off for a breather), I'm off to another gathering of geeks: VCon!

No real surprise there — the Vancouver Science Fiction Convention is my local con and I've been going for years, so, even with this summer's trip to the UK, there was really no question about whether I'd be showing up. That said, I didn't really have a choice this time: David Weber is this year's author Guest of Honour (Or, Guest of Honor Harrington Fame, you might say. Oh, come on! Don't groan like that! Somebody had to make the joke! Doesn't matter how lame it is, it had to be done, and I did it on your behalf. That's how dedicated I am to all of you, fellow fans — I'll make the terrible puns that, deep in your hearts, you want to, but can't bring yourselves to make. I will take the fall. Prat or otherwise.) and a good friend of mine back east is a mega fan of his, but can't make it out to the con, so I'm going to get a couple of books autographed for her.

This year, VCon is hosting the Canadian national science fiction convention, Canvention, where the Aurora Awards are presented. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't make any nominations or vote for the Auroras this year, but I'm still interested to see who takes the prizes.

So, as usual, expect a day-by-day, blow-by-blow account of how things went, once I've stumbled home, and, of course, watch Twitter for tweets from @bloginhood as things happen.

Meanwhile, for all of you locals who might happen to be attending: take s a refresher on the 5 bonus rules of con survival. I know, all of this stuff — just like the original 5 rules — should go without saying, but there's nothing wrong with a reminder, and some people really, really, really need to be reminded.
